Colour Obstacle Rush 2016

We did it!!

Team DRC took part in the Colour Obstacle Rush which took place at Aintree Racecourse on the 15th May 2016. I am pleased to report that all staff reached the finishing line in one piece and raised over £600 by doing so!

St Helens Art Council funded and facilitated a 4 week Art Class for the profoundly Deaf community as part of the Culture Guides Programme

Staff will be offering information and advice at St Helens Library on Tuesday 11th Feb 10am-2pm, and our St Helens Tinnitus Support Group will be throwing a Tinnitus Tea Party at the Deaf Centre all day Friday 12th Feb

Tinnitus Awareness Week 2016

Mount Snowdon Charity Climb- Sunday 14th August 2016

Experience the unique challenge that is Mount Snowdon and enjoy the reward of amazing views from the highest mountain in Wales. You’ll trek the long winding Llanberis route to the summit of the highest mountain in Wales at 1,085m (3,560ft) , admiring the breathtaking views of the Snowdonia National Park at your feet with Anglesey and the Irish Sea in the distance.


Staff from Deafness Resource Centre will be taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Snowdon in the Summer in the hope to raise much needed funds for the centre and have decided to make this an open event. There will be experienced mountaineers to guide climbers and First Aid precautions will be in place. There is a £25 registration fee and those registered will be asked to collect sponsors for Deafness Resource Centre.

Suffering From Financial hardship?

British Gas Energy Trust

St Helens Citizens Advice Bureau has received funding from the British Gas Energy Trust to assist clients in financial hardship to apply to the Trust for the following grants:


Gas and Electric arrears (including prepayment meters)

Funeral Expenses

Boiler repairs/replacements

Essential household items (cooker/fridge-freezer/washing machine)

Bankruptcy/Debt Relief Order Deposit

Advisors are also trained in energy efficiency advice and can assist clients in fuel poverty.

Criteria for applying

The only criteria for applying to the British Gas Energy Trust is financial hardship. You do not need to be in receipt of a particular benefit to apply, we have even had employed people receive grants.

If you have any savings or investments, it is unlikely you will receive an award from the Trust.

The Trust is open to everyone at present so you do not need to be a British Gas customer to apply. We have had successful applications for Scottish Power, Southern Electric, EDF, N Power and Utility Warehouse customers.

Application Process

It takes a single one hour appointment to complete an application to the British Gas Energy Trust and clients who are interested in applying can contact either Michael Egan, Ryan Smith or Laura Hitchen on 01744751380 to arrange an appointment.

It can take between 6 – 10 weeks for the Trust to process an application and if you are successful you cannot re-apply for two years. If you are unsuccessful you can re-apply at any time providing there is a change in your circumstances.
